Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide and the biggest danger is that some women don’t even realize they’re at risk. Jen Murtagh seemed perfectly healthy; she was a non-smoker, healthy eater and frequent exerciser. Nobody would have known that she had a 90% blockage in the largest artery of her heart. Thankfully, the women’s heart health experts at Vancouver General Hospital were able to detect and treat the blockage. Now, Jen is on a mission to raise awareness and funds to change this trajectory for other women.
Corinne's Story
After experiencing a heart attack at age 85, Corinne Williams was faced with three options: palliative care, open heart surgery, or a minimally invasive procedure made possible with the donor-funded Impella device. She chose the Impella, and it changed everything. “I know I wouldn’t be here without the generosity of people who contribute to the advancement of technology in medicine,” she said. “It was life-changing for me. It was lifesaving.”
