Centre for Heart Rhythm

The Centre for Heart Rhythm is an established global leader in the understanding and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias through translational research, clinical trials, and the development of novel technologies and therapies. It plays a vital role in shaping the future of the diagnosis and management of these conditions, which if left untreated, can increase the risk of health issues such as stroke, heart failure, or sudden cardiac arrest. The Centre delivers individualized multidisciplinary care with an emphasis on long-term management and aims to help patients understand their condition, participate actively in their treatment, and achieve better health outcomes.

With its team of cardiologists, electrophysiologists, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and researchers, the Centre strives to provide advanced, evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of cardiac arrhythmias. It utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and treatment methodologies such as advanced cardiac imaging, and invasive electrophysiological studies. Notably, the Centre also serves as a training centre for medical students, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals, and strives to ensure that the next generation of clinicians are competent in the latest knowledge and techniques in arrhythmia care.

Our mission is to lead the advancement of care for heart rhythm disorders

“Our mission is to lead the advancement of care for heart rhythm disorders through excellence in clinical practice, groundbreaking research, and comprehensive education. We are committed to improving patient outcomes by integrating cutting-edge science with compassionate care, fostering innovation, and training the next generation of leaders in cardiac electrophysiology.”

Dr. Jason Andrade

Dr. Jason Andrade is the Director of the Centre for Heart Rhythm and Electrophysiology at Vancouver General Hospital. He is co-chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines and the CCS Device Therapy Guidelines, chair of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society (CHRS) Device Committee, and has served as medical chair for heart rhythm disease for the Cardiovascular Disease Network in the province of British Columbia. He is an associate professor of medicine at the University of British Columbia, and an adjunct professor at the Université de Montréal. His research areas include atrial fibrillation ablation, stroke prevention, and cardiac implantable electronic device therapy.

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Ottawa, Dr. Andrade completed residencies in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of British Columbia. He then went on to complete a clinical and research fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the Montreal Heart Institute.

Dr. Andrade has received numerous awards for excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research including the Canadian Institute of Health Research CIHR-ICRH/CCS Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Cardiovascular Sciences, the VMDAS Scientific Achievement award, the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society George Klein Award, as well as the Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Research from the University of British Columbia. He has delivered more than 500 lectures and is the author of several textbooks, book chapters, and medical apps, in addition to being a consultant to the film and television industry and in regulatory and medico-legal matters.

Dr. Andrade has authored over 320 scientific publications primarily in the field of atrial fibrillation and ranks among the top 20 experts worldwide for atrial fibrillation and top 30 for catheter ablation.
