Dr. Parvathy Nair

Dr. Parvathy Nair is the Director of the Centre for CVS Medical Education, a cardiologist specializing in echocardiography, and a Clinical Professor at UBC. She is Assistant Dean, Educational Program Support and Quality Improvement at UBC’s office of Postgraduate Medical Education. Dr. Nair is deeply committed to medical education and faculty development and has made significant contributions to training the next generation of physicians.

Dr. Nair was the Program Director of the UBC Adult Cardiology Training Program for 10 years before providing leadership in various portfolios at UBC’s Postgraduate Medical Education Office. She was recently the Accreditation Lead for UBC’s Undergraduate Medical Education Program, shepherding the program to a successful accreditation result. In addition, she continues to have leadership roles at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, in the areas of subspecialty training in echocardiography, cardiology specialty training, and accreditation.

Dr. Nair publishes in the field of medical education and plays a national role in standardizing and maintaining excellence in echocardiography education. She was the lead author on the 2023 CCS/CSE Standards for Physician Training and Maintenance of Competence in Adult Echocardiography and is currently leading the development of a national exam for echocardiography interpretation. She is the recipient of several competitive grants for innovative projects that advance echocardiography education and quality improvement.

In recognition of her excellence in education, she was awarded the CAME/ACÉM Certificate of Merit in 2021.

Dr. Graham Wong

Dr. Wong is the Director of the UBC Adult Cardiology Training Program, the Associate Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital, the Medical Director of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority STEMI Program and the Medical Lead for the Coronary Artery Disease Population Group for Cardiac Services BC. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UBC.

He co-chaired both the 2017 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Position Statement on the Optimal Care of the Post Arrest patient and the 2019 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Guidelines on the Acute Management of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). He was a member of the Author Panels for the 2013, 2018 and 2024 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Antiplatelet Guidelines, the 2022 CCS/Canadian Neurocritical Care Society Position Statement on Neuroprognostication for the Post Arrest Patient, the 2022 American Heart Association Scientific Statement on Escalating and De-escalating Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support in Cardiogenic Shock, the 2023 American Heart Association Scientific Statement on Atrial Fibrillation Occurring During Acute Hospitalization and the 2024 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Clinical Practice Update for Care of the Post Arrest Patient.

Dr. Wong is deeply committed to resident education. In addition to his role as the UBC Cardiology Program Director, he is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Exam Board for Adult Cardiology and has previously served on the Royal College Nucleus Committee for Adult Cardiology. He has won a number of teaching awards including the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Distinguished Teacher Award, the UBC Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Vancouver General Hospital Bobby Miller Teaching Prize, the UBC Department of Medicine Master Teacher Award and the UBC Killam Teaching Prize.
