The Centre for Cardiac Critical Care integrates patient care, quality improvement, and clinical research focused on patients with acute cardiac conditions. The VGH Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is the clinical hub of the Centre and provides care for acutely ill cardiac patients from across the province, including those with acute myocardial infarction, acute aortic syndromes, cardiogenic shock, complex arrythmia and cardiac arrest. The CICU is a major teaching unit for medical students and residents within the UBC Faculty of Medicine. The Centre has a longstanding history of leadership in multicentre clinical trials, as well as in clinical outcomes, through large provincial and international registries.
